Another bad Peg reaction

Today we went down to the main CHOP campus in Philly to attempt to give Wes the PEG (PEG-L-asparaginase) chemo that he had an allergic reaction to on Friday. The substitute chemo (Erwinia) wasn’t available, as it’s in an extreme shortage right now. Our Oncology team thought it would be best to try the original one again, but with a wider safety net.

They gave Wes Benadryl and methylprednisolone to try stop the reaction from happening, but unfortunately he still reacted badly to the Peg after only about three minutes into the intended two hour push. They stopped the drip immediately and gave him an epinephrine shot.

We don’t know what the future holds for this route of chemo, but we hope to know more on Friday when we go in for his spinal. I’ll update again then. 🧡
